This unit entitled “Seasons” is designed for Pre-K students. The unit will integrate many academic disciplines while teaching students about seasons with specifics such as what are the seasons are, activities done during those seasons, clothing, and weather.
Students will do a variety of activities to enhance their learning. First the students explore an introduction to the concept of seasons. Then students will learn about the weather which occurs during certain seasons, for example, snow, rain, hot, old etc. Next students will learn different types of activities that can occur during the seasons, such as swimming, sledding etc. Finally, students will learn how to identify the different types of clothing that can be worn during each season, for example, jacket, rain boots etc.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education Standards, (4.1.PK.E: identify the change of seasons in the environment) the students will be producing works of art, speaking and listening during discussions, applying process knowledge that enables them to become independent leaders thought inquiry and design, and study the dynamics of seasons, which includes the studies of weather, activities, and clothing.
When the unit is complete, the students will be able to describe different types of weather, identify different seasons, identify different clothing worn during seasons, and list different activities that can be done during specific seasons, This content is key in a student’s ability to understanding, explore, and explain the natural world around them.
